This week, Netroots Nation will host the largest annual conference for progressives in Chicago. The conference will include panels and sessions with politicians, organizers, activists, media and many more, including HIT’s Roshni Nedungadi and Terrance Woodbury! 

We are proud to be incredibly active at Netroots, with HIT participating in FIVE panels across the three-day event. 

1. A Working People’s Narrative: Building a Winning Coalition Across Race and Place 
Terrance, alongside Founder and President of Somos Votantes Melissa Morales and Galvanize Action’s Chief Strategy Officer Kristin Wheeler, will discuss effective messaging strategies and share impactful approaches to engaging working people across the country and the Winning Jobs Narrative.

2. First They Came for CRT…Why Saving Democracy Means Defending Racial Justice

This panel will include Terrance, Professor of Law at UCLA and Columbia Law School Kimberlé Crenshaw, Minnesota’s Attorney General Keith Ellison, host of the “Hello Somebody” podcast and advocate Nina Turner and essayist and educator Tim Wise. The session will explore how to combat far right-wing attacks and fight for racial justice.

3. Covering Crime and Public Safety in 2024: The New Narrative
Vice President of Media Matters Julie Millican, VP for Advocacy and Partnerships for Vera Institute of Justice Insha Rahman and Terrance will discuss new data examining “tough-on-crime” policies and rhetoric and how advocates can convey a more united and effective message on public safety and crime.

4. Combating Political Cynicism in Black Communities

Roshni will moderate a session with VP for Advocacy and Partnerships for Vera Institute of Justice Insha Rahman, President of the Chicago Teachers Union Stacy Davis Gates, Founder of Black Futures Lab Alicia Garza and Polling Director at Change Research Stephen Clermont outlining actionable policy proposals and communications tactics reimagining public safety.
