Our Purpose

To Increase Black Voter Participation in the Current Political Resistance

Over the course of 2025, Black Opps conducted several focus groups, polls, and content tests with thousands of Black people to understand the barriers that prevent their resistance, the motivations that would increase their resistance, and the actions that we can mobilize them to take now – to increase the likelihood that they vote later.

Our Solution

We designed a message formula based on findings from three Black Opps focus groups with Black voters under 40, Black men over 40, and Black women of all ages fielded in August 2025, and a national poll of Black registered voters fielded in October 2025.

Focus Group Details

  • Focus Group 1: Black Registered Voters of All Genders Under 40
  • Focus Group 2: Black Men Registered Voters Over 40
  • Focus Group 3: Black Women Registered Voters Across Age Groups

As part of the research, the team conducted three focus groups to understand Black voters’ attitudes toward the current political environment and the state of the economy; determine the actions that Black voters are willing to take to fight back against the actions of the federal government; and the barriers and motivations of taking those actions.

Why Defend Justice.

  1. Perceptions of Black political power are the lowest they have ever been since HIT began measuring it, signaling a political withdraw that will depress midterm turn out among Black voters.
  2. Black voters feel like we not only lost on election day, but we continue to lose hard fought freedoms daily and nobody is doing anything to stop it.
  3. Collective action of a unified Black Opps preventing pain and defending justice is empowering to Black voters.
  4. We have not connected the dots of how the actions of DOGE and the federal government are hurting Black people/Black communities.
  5. Black voters are not well positioned for collective action to mobilize a resistance OR to vote in the midterm election.
