Immigrant children have been ripped from the arms of their parent’s and detained in cages at our borders. Muslims have been effectively banned from entering America from certain countries. Businesses have been given autonomy to determine if they want to serve LGBTQ couples, or not. NFL players have been villainized as unpatriotic “sons of bitches” for peacefully and silently protesting police injustice. And black bodies continue to be abused and discarded by those meant to protect us.

Following Roseanne Barr’s obscenely offensive comments about former Obama Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett, ABC took immediate and decisive action to demonstrate that her words describing an accomplished black woman as an ape did not reflect the network's values. The network’s cancellation of its highest rated show – a move that prioritized integrity and a commitment to decency over money, ratings, and even political expediency – surprised many.

Millennials are often accused of having a false sense of importance. Well frankly, as the largest voting block and largest consumer in the world, we are quite literally as important as we think are. The best way to get more millennials involved in the political process is by feeding the growing beast of our egos…by demonstrating just how powerful we are in this process.
