Danielle Lemi, PhD is Founder & Principal of Kapwa Sol Insights, where she helps civic engagement research organizations lead complex, innovative, initiatives that promote learning and advance the progressive movement. She specializes in multi-method research that uncovers how power and racism shape the lives and representation of communities of color in political institutions. Prior to joining Black Opps, she served as Sr. Meta-analysis Research Manager at Analyst Institute. She is the author of Doing Identity Labor: How Mixed-Race Politicians Disrupt Descriptive Representation (Oxford University Press, 2025), and the co-author (with Nadia E. Brown) of Sister Style: The Politics of Appearance for Black Women Political Elites (Oxford University Press, 2021). Her research and expertise have been featured in the NY Times, the Monkey Cage at the Washington Post, The Conversation, PBS News, CNN, and The Emancipator.
