New Poll: Black Voters Overwhelmingly Support Major Gun-Control Legislation (BLACKtrack)

Washington, D.C. | August 22 – In the weeks following the historic bipartisan gun-control bill signed by President Biden, Black voters overwhelmingly support further, meaningful gun-control reforms. The July BlackTrack survey shows that a super-majority of Black voters support additional gun-control measures including an assault-weapons ban (73%), universal background checks (85%), a ban on high-capacity ammunition (76%), and a mandatory gun buyback program for assault weapons (73%). These numbers were even higher for Black voters over 50 and Black women.

“Despite the historic nature of Joe Biden’s bipartisan gun-control law, Black voters still overwhelmingly support further gun-control measures that will keep deadly weapons out of the hands of domestic terrorists,” said Terrance Woodbury, a founding partner at HIT Strategies. “Democrats would be wise to continue to sound the alarm on Republican extremism around guns and underscore their support for gun-control reforms that will help keep communities of color safe.”
